Most runners find out what's wrong with their stride after an injury has already sidelined them. We'd rather show you first. Our new Running Form & Footwear Assessment uses pressure mapping technology, video gait analysis and a guided improvement plan to show you exactly how you run, before pain forces the conversation.

What is the Running Form & Footwear Assessment?

It's a dedicated running consult built for anyone who runs, from first time 5k joggers to marathoners chasing a PB. Instead of guessing at your biomechanics from a static exam on the treatment bed, we measure how your foot actually loads and moves while you're running, then match that data to your footwear, your training load and your goals.

This isn't a generic "watch you walk down the hallway" gait check. It's a proper clinical assessment run by a podiatrist, using pressure mapping technology, built for everyday runners around Miranda and the Sutherland Shire, not just elite athletes.

The technology: pressure mapping in action

Pressure mapping captures what the naked eye can't. As you walk and run across our plate, the system records peak pressure, force distribution and contact timing across dozens of points on your foot, frame by frame. We can see whether you're overloading your forefoot, rolling onto the outside of your heel, or pushing off unevenly through your big toe joint, and exactly when in your gait cycle it's happening.

Paired with high speed video of your running form, we don't just tell you there's an issue. We show you the footage and the pressure map side by side, so the explanation actually makes sense, and so does the fix.

What happens during your assessment

  1. Pressure mapping: you walk and run over our plate so we can capture your true loading pattern, not a guess from watching you jog across a room.
  2. Video form analysis: we film your running form and break it down against your pressure data, frame by frame.
  3. Footwear review: we assess your current shoes, check your wear patterns, and match your foot type and loading pattern to footwear that actually supports how you run.
  4. Guided improvement plan: you leave with specific, practical changes, whether that's cues and drills, a footwear swap, or a referral pathway if orthotics or further treatment would help.

Who should book this in?

This assessment is built for:

  • Runners dealing with recurring shin splints, plantar fasciitis, Achilles pain or ITB tightness
  • Anyone training for a fun run, half marathon or marathon who wants to cut injury risk before it starts
  • New runners who want to start out with the right shoes and technique, not find out the hard way
  • Runners who've bought "the right shoe" three times and still aren't comfortable
  • Experienced runners who've plateaued and want objective data on where the inefficiency is hiding

Not sure if this is the right fit for you?

Give us a call on (02) 8520 8818 and we'll talk it through, or book online in a couple of minutes.

What you'll walk away with

  • A visual pressure map showing exactly how you load your feet while running
  • Video footage of your running form with a plain English breakdown, not jargon
  • A specific footwear recommendation, not just a brand name off a poster
  • A guided improvement plan you can actually follow, with a clear next step if you need it

Frequently asked questions

How long does the assessment take?

Plan for around 60mins for a full assessment.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly online or by phone, no referral required. If you're already on a Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan for another condition, let us know when you book.

Is it covered by Medicare or private health?

Podiatry consultations aren't Medicare rebatable unless you hold a GP issued EPC referral for an eligible chronic condition, and a running assessment typically sits outside that. If you have extras cover with podiatry included, you may be eligible for an on the day rebate through HICAPS.

What if I'm not injured, I just want to run more efficiently?

That's a great reason to book. Plenty of runners come in purely for performance, not pain, to shave time off a PB or make sure their training is building them up rather than breaking them down.

What should I bring?

Your current running shoes, even if they're on their last legs, plus any other shoes you train or race in. If you have a pair you're considering buying, bring those too.

See exactly how you run, before it becomes a problem.
